the rose

25 June, 2009 janelle Leave a comment

Some say love it is a river that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razer that leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love it is a hunger an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower and you its only seed

It’s the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance
It’s the dream afraid of wakingthat never takes the chance
It’s the one who won’t be taken who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun’s love in the spring becomes the rose

-Bette Midler, The Rose

This has always been one of my favourites.

A song filled with meanings. It’s a song that brings me up when I’m down, a song that helps me find hope with I can’t seem to find any, a song that gives me even more strength to help others when I was oh-so-tired-i-wanna-give-up. And now, it’s also a song I share with my other half, the treasure I’ve found and kept for 3.5years now.

iran elections

21 June, 2009 janelle 2 comments

If you haven’t been following the happenings on the iran elections, let’s just say, it’s almost like the tiananmen case in 1989.

There are tweets from.. “Do not go home tonight. Basij has marked houses! Stay away from hospitals! Go to embassies!”; “Severe skin burns as a result of liquid being poured on protestors from helicopters.” And if you really think that everything’s just a big fuss out of nothing, please just go see this video of a wounded girl die (Warning: It’s GRAPHIC). For others, go to mashable’s.

Oh, and you really should read this.

Seriously. Go follow #iranelection on twitter and keep in tune with the news. I’ve been at it, and it’s so worrying without even knowing anyone personally.
