Personality Plus

I’ve been reading a book: Personality Plus by Florence Littauer.

Just like what most of us know of the DISC personality types, this book talks about four ways to break down personality. The first time I came across the DISC personality types was when I was in IJ. Just like how horoscopes and personality tests always appear to explain us very well, I thought the DISC was exceptional. However during the course of my Psychology degree, I’ve learnt to be a skeptic when it comes to things I read, whether it is in the form of books, blogs, newspapers or others. Ever since then, retaking the DISC has never made me feel the same way again. The choices of words used for the test were rather predictive in my opinion, and the descriptions were not sufficiently comprehensive.

While I’m not a big fan of the DISC, I do like the coverage provided by Personality Plus. In the testings, both strengths and weaknesses of individuals are taken into account, and split into the various personality types. The book goes into the characteristics of the different personality types, for both the strengths and weaknesses; then into how we can improve on the weaknesses. The author also talked about how every individual is very unique, and that it is possible to have a mix of the personalities, and she also touches on how the different mixes might be natural or complementary or even opposite. With many anecdotes and stories of people with different types of personalities, the book is a definitely a very good read and a valuable keep.

Having done a lot of reflections and personality testings, I’ve always thought that no one could know me better than myself! Afterall I don’t share everything of me to anyone in my life.. But certain parts of me that I wasn’t proud of, that I’ve always wanted to change, that I have never understood of myself, they are actually noted down in the book as well.. And this totally amazed me.

I’m a Phlegmatic Sanguine, for those who have read the book. (: I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I have! If you’re unable to find a copy, I’ve got one to lend.. So just let me know!
